Warner Bros. is adding an Ocean’s Eleven prequel to its collection and putting it in the hands of The Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie. The Oscar-nominated actress will produce and star in the upcoming movie, which will be set in 1960s Europe. Although the film has not yet been officially approved by the studio, Jay Roach, who previously worked with Robbie on the powerful 2019 drama ‘Bombshell’, is directing and Carrie Solomon will write the screenplay, which will precede the 2018 heist comedy ‘Oceans Eight.” No further details about the plot have been revealed yet.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the ultimate goal is to be in production by 2023. One of the potential complications is Robbie’s involvement in Greta Gerwig’s upcoming “Barbie” movie, another Warner Bros. film slated to premiere in 2023 reconciling this could be a big win for Robbie.
The Ocean’s franchise originally started out as a star-studded comedy, where big celebrities like George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts took the spotlight. Since then it has grown into a large series; The latest all-women spin-off, Ocean’s Eight, features big names like Sandra Bullock, Rihanna, Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway and an incredibly action-packed story. Regardless of era, the films are known for their comedic flair, adrenaline-pumping plots, and stellar cast. Now we look forward to Robbie taking us back and showing us where it all began.
