McLaren Flint’s Karmanos Cancer Institute is expanding to meet Genesee County’s growing need for oncology services with four highly respected doctors from the Karmanos Cancer Institute. Robert Morris, MD; Radhika P. Gogoi, MD, PhD; John J. Wallbillich, MD; and Ira S. Winer, Dr.
“We are excited to expand our gynecological oncology practice and bring this specialized cancer treatment to residents in and around Genesee County,” said Morris. “Because patients no longer have to travel and the cancer services we offer are made available to patients in Flint, we can expand certain surgical techniques and treatments that are otherwise only available outside of Genesee County. Patients can receive cancer treatments based on research and clinical trials, continue their treatment plan tailored to them by a strong team of cancer doctors, and receive follow-up care right here at Flint. “
All four doctors are trained in obstetrics and gynecology with specializations in surgical oncology and medical treatment of gynecological cancers where appropriate. Drs. Morris, Gogoi, Wallbillich, and Winer specialize in the removal of cancerous tumors within or near the female reproductive system, including cervical cancer, fallopian tube cancer, trophoblastic pregnancy disease, ovarian cancer, endometrial (endometrial) cancer, vaginal cancer and vulvar cancer.
They also specialize in removing these cancers using minimally invasive techniques. All are scholarship trained, currently teaching oncology and gynecological oncology at Wayne State University, and directing multiple clinical and research studies through Karmanos. In addition, they lead chemotherapy management and take part in innovative clinical studies.
All four gynecological oncologists participate in Karmanos’ multidisciplinary gynecological oncology team led by Dr. Morris is headed. This team also consists of radiation and medical oncologists as well as specialist nurses, pathologists, radiologists and other specialists who are involved in the care of a cancer patient. Drs. Morris, Gogoi, Wallbillich and Winer will work closely with the medical and radiation oncologists at the Karmanos site in Flint.
“The addition of four of the country’s foremost gynecological oncology researchers and clinicians really helps provide patients in the Flint region with the best possible care they can get within the state,” said Chris Candela, President and CEO of McLaren Flint. “We look forward to seeing many more patient success stories as we address an important medical need in our county and beyond.”
