The Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Flint welcomes fellowship-trained and board-certified gynecologic oncologist Benjamin Mize, MD, to the cancer treatment team. dr Mize joins John J. Wallbillich, MD in Flint to provide advanced care to women diagnosed with cancer within or near the female reproductive system.
“I am excited to join the team in Flint to continue providing exceptional cancer care to women in Genesee County,” said Dr. Mize. “I will be working closely with my colleague Dr. Wallbillich will work together with the multidisciplinary team in Detroit and the medical, surgical and radiation oncology teams here in Flint to provide comprehensive cancer care and management plans for the success of our patients.”
dr Mize is trained in obstetrics and gynecologic oncology, with specializations in surgical oncology and medical management of gynecologic cancers where appropriate. These diseases include cervical cancer, fallopian tube cancer, trophoblastic disease of pregnancy, ovarian cancer, primary peritoneal cancer, uterine (endometrial) cancer, vaginal cancer, and vulvar cancer. dr Mize also specializes in removing these cancers through the use of minimally invasive surgical techniques, including robotic surgery.
dr Mize has extensive training in gynecological oncology, obstetrics and gynecology. He completed Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship training at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York and completed residency training at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. dr Mize received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston, where he had an interest in surgery, particularly gynecologic oncology. With a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas, Dr. Mize the language fluently to provide exceptional care and communication for Spanish speaking patients.
Before joining the Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Flint, Dr. Mize patients at the West Michigan Cancer Center in Kalamazoo, where he trained medical students and residents.

In addition to treating patients in Flint, Dr. Mize will be part of the Karmanos multidisciplinary gynecologic oncology team led by Robert Morris, MD, at Karmanos in Detroit. This team also consists of radiation and medical oncologists, as well as specialist nurses, pathologists, radiologists and other specialties involved in the care of a cancer patient. Cancer treatment is a comprehensive team approach – Dr. Mize will work closely with McLaren Flint medical and radiation oncologists to determine the best treatment options for each patient.
