Jameela Jamil is leaving Twitter after buying Elon Musk

The Twitter exit (Twexit?? I’ll workshop it) has officially started. ICYMI, but there’s literally no way you did, super rich man Elon Musk bought the app for a whopping $44 billion yesterday. Relatable! I hate buying a $4 deli sandwich, but go away, beast! Of course, both the celebs and ordinary people who don’t feel this new ownership have decided to leave the app.

Actress Jameela Jamil appears to be one of the first to lead the pack. She announced yesterday that she’s leaving the app…on the app lol. “Ah he has Twitter,” she tweeted. “I want this to be my last tweet lying here. Just really *any* excuse to show pictures of Barold. I fear this free speech imperative will help this platform from hell reach its ultimate form of utterly lawless hatred, bigotry and misogyny. Much luck.”

TBH, between Jameela’s suuuuper cute pup and royal blue eye shadow, this is definitely how you drop the mic on a platform you leave. I would however like to start a petition to keep her just for more pictures of Barold. But I think that’s also why Instagram exists, so whatever!

Just hours before that tweet, Jameela gave her followers a small warning on Monday that if Elon actually made the purchase, she would be leaving. “One good thing about Elon buying Twitter is that I will *FINALLY* be leaving and stop being a complete threat to society here. So it’s really a win-win situation for all of you.”

There’s a lot of general dislike towards these Twitter messages over Elon’s plans for the site, including privatizing it and restoring the site’s original vision of being a space for free speech, which we know comes at a price as that principle being used as a weapon can incite hatred in various forms. In an opinionElon said: “Freedom of expression is the foundation of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital marketplace where important issues for the future of mankind are debated.”

We’ll see how this unfolds and whether or not more celebs follow Jameela’s lead!
