Multiple types of coverage
American International Group (AIG) offers a choice of term life insurance, universal life insurance, and guaranteed whole life insurance. That means almost any life insurance buyer can find a policy they are looking for. Many AIG term policies can also be converted to permanent insurance. Some competitors like Bestow only offer terms, so consumers don’t have as many options — or the ability to switch to permanent coverage if their needs change.
Lots of options for running times
AIG offers a choice of 18 different term terms for term life insurance coverage. With so many choices, consumers can ensure they only get protection for as long as they need it. No insurance buyer has to settle for a term that doesn’t work for them.
Personalized coverage assistance
AIG Direct makes it easy to get quotes online or get help from a professional agent who can provide advice on life insurance needs. Online quotes are free and personalized, and AIG direct sales support is available by phone Monday through Saturday for those who need additional assistance. Some competitors don’t offer as much support, leaving customers to make important decisions independently. Others require contacting an agent to receive prizes. AIG gives consumers choices about how to explore coverage options.
What could be improved
Better customer service
AIG scores poorly on customer service. According to JD Power’s 2021 US Individual Life Insurance Company, the industry standard overall customer satisfaction rating is 776. AIG receives a rating of 729. In contrast, the top-ranked insurer, State Farm, had a rating of 822.
AIG is the second lowest insurer on JD Power’s list, ranking only above Brighthouse Financial in terms of customer rankings.
More options for insurance coverage without a medical examination
AIG offers lifetime insurance policies with guarantees ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 that do not require a medical exam. However, most other options, including term and life plans, require applicants to undergo screening by a doctor. Some competitors, such as Bestow, offer lifetime coverage to qualifying applicants without this additional hurdle.
More Policy Types
AIG does not offer other common types of insurance such as B. household or car insurance. Consumers who want to get all or most of their insurance from the same company will find that this is not possible when purchasing life insurance through AIG. Because only a few types of policies are available, it is not possible to get loyalty discounts for bundling coverage.
